Katie Shepard Hotel – North Manitou Island

Date: Friday – Sunday, August 16 – 25, 2013    REGISTER  NOW!

Time: Approximately 6 hrs. each day. Some time off during the week to explore the island.

Project Description: PHSB volunteers will make their fifth trek to North Manitou Island this August to spend 10 days working on the Katie Shepard Hotel on “Cottage Row”.  We have hopes of restoring this for use once again as a boarding house for overnight rustic accommodations. Here’s an opportunity to enjoy North Manitou Island. We’ll be completing restoration of the exterior, and will continue major work on the interior restoration.  We’ll also be doing vegetation removal. Participants will be coming and going depending on their availability. Volunteers must sign up for a minimum of two nights, three days work. Island projects are our most popular – so sign up soon! Space is limited. Registration is required.

Funders/Partners: $5,000

Volunteers Needed: 4 skilled carpenters at any one time; 10 general volunteers. THERE IS LIMITED SPACE FOR THIS PROJECT.  Unfortunately, not everyone that signs up can be accommodated.  Past PHSB volunteers will receive priority as well as those with needed skills.  Thank you for your understanding.

Supplies/Equipment Needed: Details will follow upon registration.

Directions: Your transportation on Manitou Island Transit ferry (or you can take your own boat) is provided as well as housing on the island. Participants will pay for food we provide.

What to Bring: A list of things to bring and details will be provided when you contact us.

Please be specific on the registration form as to your available dates. We will be in touch with you if we can accommodate you on this project.  Thank you for your interest and understanding.
